Embrace change to lead organizational innovation.

One certainty of technology is that there will always be changes and innovation in the technology tools that we use in the library every day. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a deep learning based, data driven approach to increase consumers engagement and emotional bonding with the company or product. Currently, you can find the result of AI on Amazon or Netflix when you see the “recommended for you” suggestions. However, AI is also at work when your call is being routed, some companies match you with a representative that has a compatible personality and skills with yours (Kumar, 2019). This technique could be used in the library when a patron is searching for books and (not based on stored data from previously checked out materials) depending on what search terms are used in the catalog, books can be recommended that are similar. Virtual reality is a growing trend that seems to have many applications in schools, training, recreation and business with current projections to grow in use in the future.  Virtual reality could be utilized by libraries in meetings, programming and also in education through the use of 3D simulators, 3D modeling, 360 degree videos, virtual labs and field trips (Higginbottom, 2020).

Embracing change means leaning new skills and being innovative when connecting to people with different skill sets and capabilities.  Learning how to use technology in a way that will interest students, or acquiring new skills so that you can share and teach others requires patience, curiosity and flexibility. Finding ways to utilize new knowledge, innovative tools and skills either for teaching or to make larger, policy changes is important to the community and to the broader area. The artifacts that demonstrate this are the interactive literacy game and app with the learning objectives listed in other works as both of these required learning how to code on a very beginner level.  The coding had a purpose which was to include multiple choice questions and multiple levels that engage the user all while incorporating specific learning objectives and literacy lessons. The Virtual Community Resource Center Website gives many examples of innovation and new tools, how they can be applied in order to build communities. In addition, a Makerspace Article Review included relevant information and research about makerspaces and how they are being uses. This article is an example of innovation because many of the libraries that started makerspaces had an immense learning curve but what they all considered it worth it because of the value they were adding to the patrons lives that used the space.
